The previous season of Tom Pope in Port Vale, the English forward only managed on scoring 12 goals in 43 appearances which isn’t a very jaw dropping statistic but in this new season, Pope has already managed to find the back of the net on 5 occasions in just 12 appearances for the League One Club.

If his current goal-scoring campaign continues, Pope is going to enjoy going through a much better run than the previous season. Tom Pope has been improving and this has lured the interest of Barnsley’s Danny Wilson who said that he is keeping an eye out for potential forwards to add into the squad but nothing will be done at least until January when the transfer window opens once more.

“We’re certainly still in the market for a striker. But so is everyone else at the moment. Tom Pope is a player we have enquired about, but nothing will happen until January. Whether it happens with us we’ll have to wait and see.” Danny Wilson told the press.

Tom Pope is one of the players in Port Vale that fans have been showing an affinity and appreciation as well as being one of the most highly rated as the English forward has been voted as the club’s Player of the Year for the past 2 seasons and he continues scoring goals for Port Vale.

All of these recent accolades and impact that Tom Pope has been making are some of the reasons on why Danny Wilson wants to add him into his squad at Barnsley as his arrival can help boost the attacking options of the League One club.

Wilson Confident In New Signings https://www.tykesblog.net/wilson-confident-in-new-signings/ Wed, 10 Sep 2014 10:54:23 +0000 http://www.tykesblog.net/?p=113 Defensive lapses at the start of the season made Barnsley’s season objectives look on the verge of going into tatters, but the team has recovered substantially in the last few matches to move the table. After managing to get seven points from the last three matches, manager Danny Wilson said that he is confident that the club’s new signings will start to gel and make a difference. Barnsley started the season with back-to-back defeats. The opening day 1-0 defeat against Crawley Town was followed by a 2-0 defeat against Crewe Alexandra with both matches at home.

Just when it seemed that a season of relegation trouble, just after they have come from the Championship, was in store for Barnsley, they have recovered substantially by getting seven points against the likes of Crewe Alexandra, Coventry City, and Gillingham. Speaking after the 4-1 win over Gillingham, Wilson said that he is happy that the team has been able to get consistent results of the last few weeks and he is confident that results will only improve over the next few matches. A key issue for Wilson at the moment is the defensive record. Barnsley have shipped five goals in the last three matches, which is a worry for the team if they are to challenge for promotion.

“The sharpness will come with games. It’s easy to think we’ll get better and better further down the line, but we want it now. We’d like it to happen overnight and we’d like to have a continuous run all season, but we’re realistic that it’s probably not going to happen that way. But we’re working at getting better and stronger as we go along. We’ve seen we need to work on different aspects of our game, both in the offensive and defensive areas,” said the Barnsley manager.

Hemmings Joins BArnsley https://www.tykesblog.net/hemmings-joins-barnsley/ Thu, 24 Jul 2014 10:40:18 +0000 http://www.tykesblog.net/?p=108

The 22 year old forward Kane Hemmings is one of the latest additions of Barnsley as the third-tier club managed to sign the young player on a free transfer. Hemmings made a name for himself as he stood out during his time playing at the Scottish club Cowdenbeath where he managed to score 18 goals in 31 league appearances.

The contributions he made to his club did not go unnoticed as he was named as the Professional Football’s Association Scotland Championship player of the Year during the 2013-14 season. On a number of occasions Cowdenbeath were at the verge of being relegated but important goals from Ken Hemmings helped his club avoid the bottom drop zones.

Daren Fulford has worked alongside Ken Hemmings as Daren was one of the personal trainers of Hemmings and Fulford expressed his satisfaction on seeing the young defender making a move to a new club.

“I am delighted for Kane and it’s great to see him back in England, not least because I will get to see more of his games now! He’s been in Scotland since he was 16 and I think he has shown what he can do there’’

“He scored more than 20 goals for Cowdenbeath last season and was named Scottish Championship player of the year, so he has proven what a good player he is. Coming to England offers him a fresh challenge and something else to prove now. Barnsley is a great club for him to join. Let’s face it, they were in the Premiership a few years ago’’ Fulford told the media.

The head coach of Barnsley FC, Danny Wilson is expecting to see Ken Hemmings continue his series of impressive performances but this time in his new club. Barnsley FC suffered relegation as they finished the previous season at the 23rd spot but the arrival of Hemmings to the team can boost their chances of returning to the Championship League.
