They havetasted one defeat in three League One outings since the 2-1 loss at the hands of hosts Derby County.

Barnsley are aiming to make it one defeat in four gamesthis weekend when they take on Sheffield Wednesday. The Owls will play hosts to Barnsleyin a league encounter billed for Hillsborough on Saturday afternoon with the visitors hoping to avoid defeat at least to extend their league run.

Derby County were the last team to inflict a league defeat on Barnsley as reported earlier via a 2-1 scoreline before the run of one defeat in three games started. Derby County and Barnsley dropped into League One from the English Championship at the end of last season alongside Peterborough United. ConorMaccarthy put through theBarnsley net for the first Derby County goal in the eighth minute before it was doubled by Nathaniel Mendez-Laing ten minutes from the half-time interval. Josh Benson pulled one back for Barnsley on 64 minutes to setup a grandstand final quarter of the game. In the end, Derby County held on to take the win.

Barnsley recovered from the league defeat at Derby County with the big win over Bristol Rovers. The Tykes ran out 3-0 winners at home to Bristol Rovers with the aforementioned Benson getting one of the goals. He scored the third Barnsley goal in the second half to wrap up the game. It must be pointed out that there was just one goal in the second half of the game. The Bristol Rovers game was followed by the 3-0 loss to Wycombe Wanderers in the league. They were then eliminated from the EFL Cup at the second round stage by Premier League side Leeds United via a 3-1 scoreline.

The defeats against Wycombe Wanderers and Leeds United was followed by the 2-2 draw at Ipswich Town for Barnsley. Their last game was against Lincoln City in the group stage of the Football League Trophy and it ended in a 3-0 home loss for the Tykes who also finished the game with ten men.

September 2019 Performance of Barnsley https://www.tykesblog.net/september-2019-performance-of-barnsley/ Thu, 17 Oct 2019 06:01:50 +0000 https://www.tykesblog.net/?p=201 Barnsley Football Club has had an eventful September month; in the middle of the month, the game that they had with Leeds United Football Club had seen clashes in the crowd for which both clubs were concerned. As far as the game is concerned, Leeds side won with a score of 2-0; however, the fans got into a clash towards the later end of the match that led to certain disruptions. The visitors were in a lead in the 84th minute but the late penalty that Mateusz Klich gave helped the Leed side to seal their win. This match saw Leeds back in the top position for Sky Bet Championship while Barnsley slipped back to bottom three positions since they suffered four defeats consecutively. However, they had reached League One position last season.

Last weekend of September, 29th saw the match between Brentford and Barnsley. This match also ended with a score of 1-3 in favor of Brentford. Ollie Watkins scored a hat trick for Brentford while Cauley Woodrow made the goal for Barnsley that was within 59 seconds of the match opening. However, they were unable to score more goals after that and the month ended without a win for the team. Both sides have proven to be the lowest-scoring for this season. There were some moments that fans could enjoy such as Ollie Watkins having scored seven goals and gained the position of hero with a hat trick as well as was called the man of the match.

Woodrow was the opener for Barnsley and his early goal brought hope among the fans. The game was also fast paced one and both sides spurred to get chances. Like the game, advanced Brentford continued to be clinical and Watkins scored a hat trick. Barnsley has to formulate strategies to get out of the bottom position and leverage its advantages for the same.

Barnsley looking to keep promotion race going https://www.tykesblog.net/barnsley-looking-to-keep-promotion-race-going/ Mon, 08 Apr 2019 11:39:06 +0000 https://www.tykesblog.net/?p=194 Barnsley are currently second place in the Sky Bet League One standings and next face Doncaster Rovers on Friday evening.  The promotion hopefuls recently played out to a stalemate against promotional rivals Sunderland at home.

The result kept the club in the hunt for the automatic place and extended their lead over Sunderland to four points. However, the Blackcats still have a game in hand on Barnsley and the Oakwell outfit have to ensure maximum points in their last 9 games.

Barnsley visits Doncaster who currently sits on the last playoff position which should make the match one for the neutrals. Doncaster drew away at Blackpool in their last game an would be looking to win to consolidate their position in the race for the playoffs.

Daniel Stendel’s side have the opportunity of playing first which would mean that a victory would cut down the lead of Luton Town to just two points. Barnsley have been exceptional this season and are on course to achieve their target of gaining promotion to the Championship at the end of the season.

With nine games left the Reds are currently on a 17 game unbeaten run in which they have kept a remarkable 10 clean sheets during this period. One of the major beneficiaries of this run is the form of the goalkeeper Adam Davies who has kept five clean sheets in a row.

This has also been a testament to the coaching tactics of Daniel Stendel as his players have been able to keep it nice and compact at the back limiting the chances of opposition forwards.

The head to head analysis of both teams is close with Doncaster having the edge with 27 victories to Barnsley’s 24 in 74 meetings in all competitions. The most recent clash earlier in the season ended in a draw at Oakwell and this game promises to be a cagey affair.

BARNSLEY SIGN DOUGALL ON TWO YEAR DEAL https://www.tykesblog.net/barnsley-sign-dougall-on-two-year-deal/ Fri, 17 Aug 2018 02:41:11 +0000 https://www.tykesblog.net/?p=170 Barnsleyhave completed the signing of Kenny Dougall on a two year deal, as per reports. The club made Dougall the first signing of this summer having tracked the player for a long time.

Dougall repaid the investment in him by scoring two minutes into his first ever game. He featured in Barnsley’s final preseason fixture and was on the scorer’s sheet. The Australian said it was a longtime dream to play for the Reds as he grew up watching English football. He said as a kid growing up in Australia, the English leagues were popular.

The player is hoping he can help the side win as many games a possible and help them achieve their aim of promotion. He knows that the aim of any relegated side is to go back up. Dougall would need to live up to expectations, having been brought to fill the slot following the exit of Gary Gardner and Joe Williams, who returned to their employers after a loan spell.

Dougall is expected to contribute in an attacking style that seeks to regain possession as soon as it is lost. He has already started well at Oakwell, scoring with his second touch in the team shirt. He says his job isn’t to primarily score goals but then the goals help the team. He has his medicals on Thursday, his first training session the next day, and then played in the final preseason game, scoring his first goal for the club.

The club is happy to have Dougall but they are also at the risk of losing their striker Tom Bradshaw to Ipswich Town. Millwall and Ipswich are looking to lure the player in the final year of his contract. Other Championship sides are also reportedly interested in the attacker.

HECKINGBOTTOM ANNOYED ABOUT BARNSLEY SALE https://www.tykesblog.net/heckingbottom-annoyed-about-barnsley-sale/ Wed, 28 Mar 2018 19:56:01 +0000 https://www.tykesblog.net/?p=166 There have been talks of the sale of Barnsley for quite some time but a final deal hasn’t been struck yet and Heckingbottom reckons that the delay is not benefitting anyone, not him for sure.

As per Heckingbottom, because there is no surety who is going to run the club the next summer, he has not been able to plan in terms of transfers.

If he gets a surety that this party or that party will buy the club, it will help him plan for future.

Also another thing which he will get rid of once the sale is done and dusted is that he will not be queried about it as often as he is currently.

Currently wherever he goes, the only question that the public seem to have to ask to him is what is happening regarding the sale of the club and that’s kind of annoying because he has no idea about it.

However, in spite of all these distractions outside the pitch, Barnsley’s performance on the pitch is not getting affected and of late, they have managed to collect some valuable points.

Out of the previous 3 games that they have played in the second tier, they have one victory and a couple of draws to their name and while they are still in the danger zone of the table, they seem to be going up now.

Heckingbottom stresses that nobody in the Barnsley locker room is thinking about the sale of the club. The players as well as the support staff are going about their work the same way they used to do previously.

Barnsley’s next opponents in the second tier are going to be their bitter enemies Hull City.
