The Hornets are back in the Premier League after a solitary season in the English Championship. Watford secured a place amongst the big boys of English football in the Premier League by finishing second in the Championship last season. Second position earned Watford automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Perica, 25, is surplus to requirements at Watford and he has been linked with a move to Barnsley. Barnsley are looking to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season. The Tykes would be keen to build on the successes of last season where they reached the Championship playoffs before they were beaten by Welsh team Swansea City in the semi-finals.

The interest of Barnsley in Stipe Perica was revealed by media outlet The Athletic.

Perica signed for Watford last summer. He joined the Hornets from Italian Serie A outfit Udinese and the attacker went on to score once in 18 games as Watford secured automatic Premier League promotion under manager Xisco Munoz.

Watford attacker Perica started his career at Zadar in his native Croatia before signing for Premier League giants Chelsea in 2013. Perica spent three years at Stamford Bridge but he was not close to making an appearance for the first team. From his three years at Chelsea, Perica spent two years at NEC Breda in the Dutch league.

Perica moved from Chelsea to Udinese whom he scored 11 goals for in 71 games before leaving the Italian Serie A team for Watford. He had loan spells at Italian team Frosinone, Kasimpasa of Turkey and Belgian team Royal Excel Mouscron before signing for the Hornets.

TOMMY WRIGHT TURNS DOWN BRISTOL TO REMAIN AT BARNSLEY https://www.tykesblog.net/tommy-wright-turns-down-bristol-to-remain-at-barnsley/ Thu, 28 Jul 2016 11:15:34 +0000 http://www.tykesblog.net/?p=143 Tommy Wright has turned down an approach from Bristol City for his signature as he opted to remain at Barnsley in the forthcoming season, according to reports.

City wanted the coach to join their squad due to his performance in the last campaign but he rejected it. Barnsley also lost their bid for Plymouth defender Curtis Nelson as their approach was turned down instantly by the club.

Tommy Wright has enjoyed a lot of links with Bristol City especially at the prospect of reuniting Lee Johnson at Bristol City. From when the manager left Barnsley for the Ashton Gate, the 50-year old has been linked to the club but he was offered the Under21 role at the Championship side which he promptly rejected. Wright didn’t just turn down the coaching role; he signed a new deal with Barnsley. The club says it wouldn’t improve on the offer for Nelson.

Also, Otis Khan, who joined Barnsley in January from Sheffield United after they released him, has opted to join League Two side Yeovil. When Barnsley won promotion, he only managed three appearances in the first team but signed a one-year deal with Yeovil to get regular first team action. His new coach told the club’s official website: “I am really excited to be able to work with Otis, he has a really good pedigree. He has an unbelievable desire and determination to do well and I am sure his career at Yeonvil Town will be successful.”

The 20-year old player signed a deal for 18 months when he joined Barnsley but he knew he would struggle for attention into Paul Heckingbottom’s Championship plans so he decided to look away. The player claimed the decision was in his career’s best interest and the club wished him well.
