Barnsley managed to avoid relegation last season by the skin of their teeth. The final day escape from relegation will be a huge morale booster for the club, but manager David Flitcroft wants to avoid a repeat of the same. He has already strengthened the team substantially by bringing in several players over the last few weeks. However, he has said that there is still room for some improvement with the team. Barnsley are expected to bring in a few more players before the end of the transfer window.

The form of the team in the friendly so far has not been very positive. They have failed to win any of the friendly matches so far, while also losing one as well. As a result, there is a lot of negativity surrounding the club even before the start of the new campaign. The club will be beginning the new season with a home match against recently relegated Wigan athletic. This is going to be an extremely tough match for the club since Wigan will be having most of the players from the Premier league campaign.

They also have a new manager in the form of Owen Coyle, who has a lot of experience in the top divisions of English football.

“I’m in constant contact with Ben (Mansford, chief executive) and we’ve had some great conversations about recruitment. After training at night time, we’re working until about 11 o’clock at night over the recruitment side of the game. We’re trying to invite players out Thursday and Friday and we’re taking a look at a player out here,” said the manager to the official site of the club. Following the Wigan match, Barnsley will be having another home match against Scunthorpe United in the League cup. Barnsley have two home fixtures in the opening three league matches.
